Default Air Con. how to remove front air-con cooler safely

    Hi,

i have an ADM AE86 for 4AC boat anchor.

i have just had a minor front end smash, and damage the air con cooler and some of the joining pipework. i just wanted to know any tips on removing the damaged stuff safely, so i can replace with good parts.
and if anyone has the cooler and the pipe work off it available i am in need of them!

    cheers
    Ade Mc

(will take some pics in the morning)

you need to figure out what gas it runs (eg. r12 or r134a) then find a workshop with a aircon machine for that gas. the current gas in use in most workshops is r13a. once the gas is out just unbolt all the components your replacing. you could vent the gas to atmosphere but that is highly illegal.

its called a condensor and blake is right.

i have an aircon license and there is ALOT of hoops to jump through to acquire one.........there are mobile services that will come to your place and evacuate the gas for a fee.

unless you have had work done on the aircon i would say you have R12.....which is dangerous. DO NOT VENT IT TO ATMOSPHERE.

    Cheers for the info fellas.
the air-con stopped working about 2 months ago (before my accident), air is piss warm. does this mean that it maybe possible that the gas has runout/leaked out?

yes, either that, or the compressor has shit itself and doesnt engage

if you find the charge port, it will be on the back of the compressor, remove the cap. Inside you will see a valve that looks the same as a tyre valve, get a screw driver and press the valve down VERY VERY briefly. if there is no pressure, nothing will happen = no gas.

if there is gas, you will know bout it. DO NOT POSITION YOUR SELF OVER THE VALVE AND LOOK INTO IT WHEN YOU PRESS IT DOWN.

I have seen photos of someone that has done that, the gas froze his eyeball in the socket. no bullshit

if you dont feel confident with what i have said, just leave it and dont mess with the system. a/c can be quite dangerous
