its the way that they light up when you turn your lights on ... it only has 1 bulb and it is offset from the center so they use flood illumination style to light up the whole gauge. it just means that it has better coverage of the gauge so it lights up evenly.

mounting takumi style is the only option you have, but the guage its self is HUUUUGGGEE. the you may as well bolt a monster tacho in front of you, as the 100mm would be about the same size..

they come in 2 sizes 80mm and 100mm.
a 80 mm one wouldn't be to bad, but if you wanted a monster tacho you would be paying about $300 and it would stick out like dogs balls.

    anyway arn't monster tacho's 5" ... the 100mm one is about 4"

back in the day i brought a new monster tacho for $65 delivered. even had carbon fibre and shit in it. then i realized how freakin huge and gay it was so i sold it.

i dont mind the 80mm personally, i cant see any reason why you couldn't mount it in place of the standard one if you dont mind butchering the dash up a bit.

the standard tacho built into the AE86 looks do be about 4" so it could be done with hacking and modifying to get it into the cluster. i have a spare cluster that someone could try it on.

anyway need to get an order list sorted out.
