about to install cam covers with new rubber gaskets. however i am unsure wether or not the packing has already been performed? if not where about do i pack it and what is used?
what are the two larger holes in the middle for?
where do these live?

the black blobs are the old packing. remove this and then put some new dobs of rtv silicone there before installing the cam covers.
the left hand hole is a mounting point for the FWD bypass pipe. the right hand hole is for the knock sensor, which brings us to the last pic.
From left to right, coolant temp sensor, knock sensor and oil pressure sender.
