the amount of vibrations that are going to go thru that RHS...shits going to be cracking welds quick smart...

in saying that...so many sr20 86 builds going on in tassie atm :s...

time will tell, the bolts are high tensile so there is more chance of the rhs collapsing than the bolts snapping. I am thinking of tieing it into the standard mounting point aswell.

who else is building a sr86? I know there are a few sr ke70's being built

Firstly mate, big wraps on the build! Always good to see well thought out and executed builds of this calibre taking off, especially in little old Tassie, proves we can take it to the mainland and their big named workshop builds! Im a big fan of custom fab work, looks like your old man and yourself have got it well and truely under control

You going to be caging it Im guessing? Well worth it seeing you're going this far!

If you're interested mate I can supply you with laser cut 5mm brackets to suit the hilux diff (instead of cutting off the flimsy looking s series items), and seeing as you're in hobart I'd recommend only 1 person to do the work to the diff, pm me if you need someone to do it. Once the new brackets are welded on it WILL need straightening, welding it will distort it enough to throw it out of alignment significantly. Anyone in the know will know the best man for the work, I wont go forum dumping his name however as I dont want to be held responsible for god only knows who going in and annoying the crap out of the man

I think I'll have to agree with Hao here, I dont really like the look of the cross member as it is. Think the RHS will fail fairly quickly, if not snap the brackets off the chassis rails. The bolts and the solid machined lugs they go through look like the strongest points there. I do however like your idea of tying it into the standard mounting points, a nice pressed plate in there would be ideal, pick up the original mounts and gearbox and the new brace, extra stiff through there then!

Keep up the good work man, definately worth watching this thread

You would be too if you had to deal with even half the dickheads he and 'other specialists' in the same area have to deal with on a daily basis! Im all for the 'no dickhead tolerance' stance!

Ah good stuff, nothing better than having something you can say you hand made. Although, that said, I've learnt there is a line there, cheap off the shelf (Ie nissan, subaru etc) aftermarket parts are handy in a repair situation! lol.

You're just buying the cage in a kit form and assembling your self? Sounds like a good way to go about it, provided (which it seems you can) you can weld, roll cage is not something you want to risk bad welds on!

Crossmember 2.0 looks much better mate
