tubs finished, just need to weld them totally in once the engine comes out again

Also some rose joints arrived that I bought, will be making rose jointed: LCA's, Castor Rods, Equal length trailing arms and watts link arms

Started on my trans tunnel this weekend after putting it off for a while. Was originally going to fold up a big box section and cut most of it out, but decided to do this and keep most of the orginal metal in there for rigidity.
There's also a tiny boxed section in the corner for the dump pipe. The weldings a bit shit because the standard metal is sooo thin! Might step down to .6mm wire..... anyone got any tips?

Check which shielding gas you are using, argoshield light might help, argoshield universal should be alright to use also.
the .7mm wire will allow a hotter weld due to less filler wire being used, maybe do some test plates?
are you wire wheeling all the paint and seam selant out rather than grinding or flapper wheels?
I could come round for a look if you like prob wont be till tuesday.
    Cheers Kieran

I'm using Argon 07 shield gas, I wire wheel the paint off but only one side, because when i did the tubs i cleaned both sides and it thinned the metal down to much.
If its not to much trouble to come down I would appreciate it, be alright getting someone who knows what they are doing to set the welder up. Cheers

Picked up a hilux diff yesterday with a 4.3 centre, pulled it apart that afternoon and knocked up a jig today. Took a while because my dad is a perfectionist, he was putting 15thou shims here and there getting it 100% accurate. Will cut the mounts off tomorrow and try and get them all welded on to the hilux housing.

    Hilux Housing:

    Axel size difference.....

Trying to work out how to mount the AU Falcon watts link I bought:

The S series diff that came with the car died a noble death leaving me with all the mounts ready to be welded onto the hilux housing.

Heres the hilux housing with all mounts tacked on, have to wait until a hot day to weld the rest apparently and then only welded an inch at a time then let cool right down, If i weld it all at once when the weld cools it will shrink too much and warp

    Transmission tunnel pretty much finished

And this arrived the other day courtesy of SP Garage

formular one car maybe, wouldnt worry about it to much, welding a inch at a time you will loose heat (which is the theory) but the stop start will
cause a cold point and lack of penertration in the weld making it weak.

still all to technical pick up the mig and give it to her

Just weld the F-ing thing.. It will still pull alittle reguards less.. a Constant weld will be stronger and quicker/neater than stop starts everywhere... toyota as well as every other car maker just welds them without stopping..
