im sure it would work, hopefully one of the ae86dc toyota super nerds* can confirm!

hey guys does any one know or has done a 83 kw crank on a 100kw block?
just budget issues...

no it wont work, different big end sizing, you need to change the rods and pistons too

so sam are you saying that in order to use a bigport head on a smallport bottom you have to use all the smallport internals? is there anything that is interchangeable?
The mains are all the same size on all 4age cranks. The big ends change between a bigport and smallport. In order to put a bigport crank into a smallport block, you also need the bigport rods and pistons. The other main problem is if the 7rib block has oil squirters, the bigport pistons will probably hit them (may need them removed/blocked).
Btw its 86kw not 83kw

yes thats right, but as above you need to put a file onto the pistons to make room for the squirters. Not hard to do but you will need some drug scales to match the weights after the mods. Everything else should be a match, in the bottom end anyway.

you would use the smallport internals anyway for the higher compression
yer what blair said
if you are going to the hassle of putting different intanls in it will prolly cost you more than a complete smallport/20v bottom end.
if you factor in machining for the parts you are trying to assemble (linish, new bearings...whatever else....)
just try and find a complete "100kw" bottom end and dont open it up.

exactly right, unless you have a real good reason like it having aftermarket parts already

i thought the heads would be interchangeable without changing any internals???
or are the valve flycuts totally different?
