supposedly (this is coming from a few MX5 and honda fanboys) the dunlops are better than the R888's, but cost a few dollars more.
but for the best bang for your buck cant go past the R888's.
Has any one out there tried these new DUNLOP DIREZZA DZ03G Semi slicks yet ??????????

These are my current options:
Toyo R888 185/60R14 $260ea (195/60R14 not listed)
Advan A048R 185/60R14 $249ea
Advan A048R 195/60R14 $259ea
Also Advan A050 would be one to get, but a 14" is not made at the moment.
I only have 14 x 6.5" rims right now. Which tyre?
R888 for long term usage, Yoko's for short term usage/life.
Said another way: Want a quick time first time out Yoko's. Want to be faster on the same tyres in 6 months and 3 track events later:R888's.
+1
the yokos are a control tyre in IPRA and most of the guys i talk about them hate the yokos as they barely last one race. a couple have used R888's on test days and sprints and shit and are usually for a good couple of seconds quicker a lap and will last more than 2 events.
Ok Guys , bit the bullet and lashed out on a set of 205/50/50 DUNLOP DIREZZA DZ03G ( SOFT ) Semi slicks . Holy shit ----- straight away 2 seconds quicker at local hill climb . The wear rate is horrendous --- but that's the price you pay to keep up with the Jones. I recon that you would kill them after two laps at Wakefield , but great for climbs.

My Sprinter is stripped out and close to 900kg even with a cage. I am about to order the R888 in 185/60R14. It is the classic size tyre for the 80's Corollas, but is it too small? Would I be faster in 1 lap or hillclimb with a 195 tyre? I have heard a wider tyre takes longer to heat up, which is why you run smaller tyres on smaller cars. I wonder if a 195 tyre one a 7" rim would actualy be faster. The old Group-A cars were restricted to a 185 tyre on a 6" rim at one stage. I only have ~95kw at wheels now, and the front tyres get warmer than the rear when trying to go fast. I have only used old street tyres at the track and don't find any difference between 195/60R14 and 185/60R14. I think my fastest time yet has been on Bridgestone RE711 185/60R14 street tyres with only a few mm left on a hot day. Used R-spec tyres were slower (unknown age of tyres), which is why I want new ones. Sorry for the ramble.... $1000 does seam like a lot.
yeah the R888's come in 205/50.
johnny i would go a 195/50 15 if you can. again a lot of MX5 guys i know run them and quite a few of other people i know seem to go for that size on the smaller cars. other good thing is that they are cheaper in that size too...
