Question Insurance for 21 yr old P plater? AE86 for comprehensive or 3rd party?

So many things to do, so many questions! I'm just about to buy myself an AE86 Levin that is completely stock and in immaculate condition and I'm wondering what insurance to get and who to go with. I know it's a $5-6000 car but I'm thinking comp is the way to go. I just don't want to take the risk and be left with a heap of payments and no car (got a 5k car loan). Never really done any of this stuff and don't have much help, so you good people are my only answer. Got a few online quotes, so far JustCar offered me a mere $3500 cover for $1450. Budget Direct offer me the cheapest at $1340 for comp (don't know what the cover is).
    Any suggestions?

Here's some pictures of my soon-to-be pride and joy:

if it is an australian delivered sprinter, then i think you are doing well with the 3500 dollar cover.
but that is just my opinion.

if it was a japanese import, in similar condition, i wouldnt be happy with anything under 10k.

at 21 years of age and on your P plates, insurance is going to cost you a bomb regardless of the car that you drive. unfortantely that's just how it is
From what i have read of similar insurance questions on the forums, JustCar seem the best for what you pay.

Todd~ How do you tell if it is an import? I'm very new with 86's.
The owners told me it's imported, but I doubt they know much more about them than I do.
And how come you say 3500 would be going well for an Australian delivered 86? Aren't they still hard to come by?

Marvis~ Third party? I'm considering it...but what if I make a stupid mistake or am hit by unregistered car? As I said, I took out a 5k car loan and would still be left with the repayments. I just don't want to take the risk.
Haha, love your icon by the way.

...Ah crap. Does that mean $5500 is too much to pay for an Aus delivered? It's in really good condition mind you. Also, what's the difference between the two?

Its value is the most a buyer will pay

the main difference with Jap delivered versions is that they came stock with a 16v 4age (efi twin cam) engine whereas the Aus delivered only came with the 4ac (sohc carby) engine. Jap's also had bigger brakes, better diff etc.

Yeap, mines an Aus delivered then.
But do you think I could find one in that condition cheaper? I don't know if I'd pull out either way, I'd feel bad, haha.

My insurance for my 86 (ADM) is 870 bucks a year for comprehensive. This is on shannons and the car is valued at 5 grand. I am only 18 too and still on my P's. However my dad (56) is also a listed driver so I have no idea if that makes any difference in pricing.

Also for some good 86 infomation.
You have to use a google translator to make it english though.

I'd say you can. It will just take time for the right one to come up at a good price. and you should be looking in mulitple places like: car forums, local classifieds, ebay etc.
