Cheap regular gearoil is fine, GL4 grade. Get the thinest GL4 on the shelf, like 75w80 or something like that. 75w-90 is what the manual says. Not over 90w or 120w as it may not shift. But if the syncros are old, you can use Dextron as a thinner gear oil. If you have new syncros, don't use synthetic or anything that costs too much, or the syncros can't wear in and you won't be able to shift. It will always feel cold.
1.7 litres I think.
Yep 1.7 litres is what a T50 takes.
What about good ol Castrol VMX 80? Or are people having better results with Dextron slush box fluid? Initial shift may be good, but any reports on reliability? Would been keen to know.
all ls1, ls2 and ls3 T56 manuals use dextron 3 without any dramas
Redline shockproof aka smurf blood
Awesome stuff, but costs a bomb! lol. Used it in a mates R154, which was almost impossible to shift and totally transformed it.
However have heard a few people say it can glaze the synchro's, because redline SP is a diff oil. When we pulled apart the box, the synchro's were very shiny... but that may have been like that previously. Hard to know really.
Is Penzoil Dextron III ATF recommended for T50???
I use Redline MT (not shock proof) oil in my box T50 with TRD gearset works fine.
