Default Targa WrestPoint (TAS) with pics

Tasmania maybe spoilt with tarmac rallys right now. The latest is "Targa Wrest Point" which is a mini version of Targa Tasmania. It is shorter (cheaper), only going for a weekend, and uses the country roads between towns south of Hobart.

Day 1 just finished. More action tomorrow.

As a new event, not many residents and enthusiests knew about it. But regular tarmac rally guys were very keen to enter. Some amature pics from myself.
    Do you like these cars?:

Tasmanian and ace welder Jason White.

Local Adrian Moresby in the Gemini.

OMG that is Jim Richards. Seconds later his electric window goes up signaling that he is in the office and about to do some work.

One of only 2 Toyotas. A TA22 Celica "GT".

So yeah, some motivation to get my Levin back together. This would be one of the main events I would aim for, if I had a job! It sets the standard for the quality of vehicle I want to prepare (as in presentation). Too hard to match the speed.

Love the rising sun on that celica.

IMO Jason White has more money than skill.

Well, if you knew Jason at all you would see it very differently. He does not make a lot of money from what I know (talked to him and been to his workshop), and is hired as a driver for his skills. Has been a go-kart champion etc, won Targa outright before etc. The money comes from John White, in the navigators seat.

spotto daim shelton bein a faster than jason white in a kart
not jawing at white, he's a good steerer, just amazed daim can pass out in a gutter for a few hours when walking home from town, sleep in the shower for a few more hours, then get dressed, go to archerville and smash it.

That Celica is owned by a work mates dad, runs a heavily worked 2tg on twin carbs, very nicely presented car

In regards to the event itself it looks like a good one, you wouldn't happen to know what class structure they run under (i.e. is it the regular CAMS classes or do they have their own set up) as I've been told my car wouldn't be eligible for Targa Tasmania due to running a non original engine. If these guys are a bit more lenient I would very much like to have a go next year

I am looking into the classes now, just out of interest, in case I was to enter at some stage.

I am fairly sure all the classes and regulations are identical to Targa Tasmania. But the event itself is a bit more relaxed (and less media hype) than Targa Tasmania.

All the info for classes is on the websites for Targa Wrest Point and Targa Tasmania, but it is a lot of reading and hard to wade through.

From what I read so far, if someone was to enter a AE86, it would have to have a 16v 4A-GE. But it could have quad throttle EFI if you wanted. And you can overbore about 1mm or 10%. Pistons, cams and computer are all free. Brakes are free.

But don't take my word for it. These documents can be tricky to read.

Ha ha, yeah I know, I've been looking into how far I can go and stay in 3J, need to be spot on! The rules are written by lawyers I swear...

By the sounds of that it needs to be an engine that was available in that shell somewhere, so an xe7x like mine would be limited to k motors, 2tg/3tc or 4ac (ew)
