    Hey all

as the title suggests, im just after a quick step-by-step guide on how to drop out a t50 from a ae86 off a silvertop 4age

i need to drop it out so i can check the flywheel diameter as i cant remember what was installed in the engine swap
ive had a quick squizz this arvo and it looks semi-straightforward, but im not as experienced as many on here and i dont wanna get past the 'point of no return' without having any idea on what to do next

any help at all would be awesome

    thanks a lot guys

    Dan

I realy like the methods of using a one meter long entension to get the top two bolts out. Use ratchet spanners for the block to bellhousng support brackets. Drain oil, drop tailshaft, take console out, shifter off, remove earth lead before doing anything else.

you know there may be a slim possibility of pulling the boot of your clutch fork and seeing what flywheel you have through that hole

    1. remove centre console, gear stick boot, and gear stick (phillips and 10mm)
    2. disconnect battery (10mm)
    3. drain gear oil (19mm), pull off reverse switch wires, unscrew speedo cable (hands or gently with multigrips)
    4. Remove tailshaft (2x 12mm spanners, 14mm for centre bearing)
    5. unbolt the clutch slave (12mm)
    6. unbolt starter and stiffener brackets (14mm)
    7. unbolt gearbox crossmember and let it hand down
    8. get the top 2 gearbox bolts with a 17mm socket, a wobble thingy, and a couple of very long 1/2" drive extensions.

if you are careful you may be able to leave the tailshaft in so you can avoid draining the oil. though on the other hand its a good opportunity to change the gearbox oil

    up to you i guess.

    this is awesome guys

extremely helpful, and im almost done after running out of daylight 2 days in a row after work -

    however ive hit a snag

the top drivers side bellhousing bolt is an absolute bitch to get to and i dont have a bendy/wobbly tool to get to it
so is there any way at all to get at it with regular spanners and/or ratchets and so on?
(preferably without having to remove anything else from the motor, coz thats where i get worried ill stuff it up somehow haha)

thats the last thing i need to get, then it will drop out

    thanks guys

Provided the previous time you put it together you lubed the bolts up, you can usually get it with a stubby spanner and muscle

Decide which tool you want, then go and buy that tool in a cheap brand. Cheap tools are so cheap these days. And Kmart is open 24hrs.

if your like me and have very expensive gearbox oil i have a spare t50 yoke that i put in the back of my t50 when taking it out so i can keep the oil in it
    the dyno pull to 300rwkw

BT20v is making 300rwkw like i said i would without nitrous so now its time for some spray and see if she will run a 10s or less

thanks a lot for the steps guys, really helpful

got it out with minimal stuffing around and minimal problems
however, there was one small hiccup

ive snapped my reverse light switch wires which is a bit of a problem
is there any other models of toyota that would have the same length reverse light switches with the t50 as the ae86?
im hoping for just a quick swap over to a newy if i can

    cheers guys
