Registering an adm ae86 with a 4age in vic

Car - 1984 adm ae86

motor - 4age

use - daily

problem - 4ac was converted to 4age

personal situation - car has not been registered for awhile. how can i legally register it in victoria after the engine conversion?

if it had the 4age in it when it was still registered, check the regency sticker to see if it matches numbers on the block,

if not just go through standard procedure, they will notice the engine numbers are different but afterall its the same family, just say that the last engine croaked from old age, you replaced it with the same type of engine they will just put the new details on your registration.

go vic roads and say "hey i changed my engine, here is the new engine number" give them engine number. "all good"

The above methods will probably work and things will be fine.

However to be 100% legal you need an engineers certificate since an AE86 was never sold in Australia with a 4AGE. This has been discussed long and hard (have a search for some threads) and is somewhat contentious. But make up your own mind and then do what you want.

yeah but my guess is hes on the new P plate laws which means an engineer cert'd vehicle isnt legal to us, so either way its 50/50 may aswell take cheaper way out, if you got it when your off your P's then yes would be a valid choice to make.

im pretty sure in vic you dont need to engineer because the engine is the same displacement just go in and give them the new details of the engine

Legal way, Engineers cert is required, no ifs, no buts......

i dont know about in vic but for a pink slip in NSW (the one you do every 6months or year) engine number is not required, only for Blue slip (if car has not been rego for 3 or more months i think it is)
