    Default Gauge recommendation!

Getting some gauges for my car, Water Temp, Oil Temp and Tacho. After some Gauge recommendations for decent quality but not overly expensive...wondering also what experiences people have had with quality and how much they've spent!

    Cheers, James.

    im a VDO fan

mainly cause my dad is a marine electrician, and uses vdo exclusivly on all the boats he wires up, and never has a problem!

i have a water temp VDO guage, cost me about 50$ for both guage and sender. been going strong for a few yrs now.

yeah +1 for VDO, they make the OEM stuff in alot of european cars, like mercedes, if you get electric they are quite reliable, very cheap

If you want something flashier, Greddy gauges are pretty much the standard, electric ones are super reliable, and have good functions like peak and warning, and an external trigger for buzzer, or whatever.

I've also heard good things about VDO stuff. So that's good to know people on here use them. I hear they're pretty stealth looking too, not heaps flashy, which is what I'm after.

I love these things but I'm heartbroken to see they're discontinued.

They've been discontinued for quite a while now.

Im using autometer in the 86, because thats the only comany that makes all the guages I wanted to use in the same series. They're pretty pricey for what they are, although ive been using autometer for years and never had an issue with them whatsoever. The Autometers in my HZ are almost 8 years old and not a problem. Still super accurate against a master gauge.

I used GReddy warning meters in my RX7... absolutley fucking protown, but cost the fucking earth.

I do know of an Omori water temp/oil temp/tacho set, but you could buy a new set of VDO's and have change for the money he wants.

For the price, availability and quality grab some VDO's mate or some cheap autometers if you find some on sale.

+? for vdo. th eonly thing i have found is for the oil temp and pressure guages is that they dont have any pitch or size to fit 86 or toyota threads.

however their tacho and water temp guages were no issue at all and accurate too. alot of european manufacturers use them in their production cars so they should be good
