    Default Myke's AE71 Wagon

Hey everyone, I've been meaning to post up a thread for this beast for a while now.
I bought her in September 2009 from Byron bay and have since been working hard on repairing the broken car that was Ol'Rusty, as named when Beau used to own her.

    A bit of History...
I've wanted an AE71 Wagon since watching Ueo's mountain run vid on youtube. Fell in love with Wagons/Pano's and went looking for one. I found this wagon as a stocker and have wanted it ever since. It had everything nessesary to be a great wagon. But it was in Sydney, didn't run, and the tow to brizzy was too expensive. i forgot about it and continued living life.

Then she come up for sale again. This time better then ever and exactly what i wanted my wagon to be! Beau had done a great job! unfortunately it was still in Sydney, more expensive, and still rusty. Again, i didn't bother.

Not long after that she was for sale again and was only a few hours drive away. This time she was alot cheaper, a little damaged and pretty tired looking, but there was still potential. So i grabbed it!!

This is how it looked upon purchase

After my mate had almost killed the car and himself on the drive back from Byron (dead shocks all round and rooted wheel allignment), we parked it and I slowly unravelled the mission ahead.
The plan was to get it on the road ASAP just so i could rep an awesome car. Fortunately i decided to do it propperly...

    The list was this:

    Extensive rust repair
    new windscreen
    New handbrake cable
    new rear shocks
    front coilovers
    leaf springs reset
    front bar
    LHS head light
    LHS tail light
    Boot
    ...
    ...so many more things.

little by little i have almost finished this thing but i'll post up the progress that has taken place so far

    Myke

Haha Thanks guys Destroyer your old tail lights are awesome! so clean! and yeh still has locker. may swap for open diff yet?? still deciding.
This Wagon has been a BIG challenge though ay. i probably won't be doing it again at this magnitude. once is enough haha

Anyway, I got right into the rust soon after i bought her and was DEVASTATED to find just how bad it was.

After this i decided to cut it out just for laughs and see how much i'd need to weld back in. The below pics explain alot.

I also found that the stock rear guards had been cut out and not welded back together at all when the flares were put on. And if all that rust wasn't enough, both back corners of the rear guards were rusted through aswell.

After much soul searching...i made a really hard decision...and fixed it.
i had my mates Uncle do most of the welding. He did a fantastic job and none was possible without him, a bunch of other mates, and a MIG welder. i cut and bent all the metal to be put back into her and over a couple of weeks she was patched up again.

The body work has since been bogged and i'm currently refinding all the body lines again haha. Not an easy task. Hopefully be in primer in a couple weeks.
The plan is to paint it a very similar colour to Starny_Boy's Panelvan as my engine bay is that colour. also cheaper.
Everything else but the exterior is still pretty clean ay (more pics later)

    Cheers

Haha of course the guards will be filled! i bought the car with the 13x8's and 13x10's pictured up the top, so filling the guards won't be a problem guys
later down the track i might go searching for some meshies or some MK2's or 3's in a similar size. No rush
