    Default drums are stuck

    hey all,

trying to remove the drums on my diff (T-18 diff) and they won't come off,

i've tried screwing 2 bolts in the face of the drums to remove them but they are too tight and the threads are getting stripped,

also tried prying them off with no luck, i think the drums are seriously lipped,

can anyone throw some more ideas up???

make sure you hand brake is completely slack, then just give it one good solid wack on the face with a hammer towards the middle imbetween the studs, gets em off every time.

Often when I had slightly lipped drums and they got over tightened I had a hell of a time getting them off. Eventually I resorted to levering them off against the backing plate. Stuffs the backing plate, but everything still works.

Not recommended if you care too much about how they look.

wind back the brake shoe adjuster all the way - will get you under the lip

yeh wind back adjuster is good. prolly have to lever them expect to break stuff/bend backing plates. i fkn hate working on drums with a big lip on them. just keep levering and they'll eventually come off.

Lol, don't use brute force till they come off... just wind back the adjuster through the windown on the backing plate, it can be a little fiddly but better than bending stuff

Can you wind them off through that window? I always assumed that you wouldn't be able to push the rachetting arm off the star shaped part of the adjuster, and so couldn't back it off. Then again I never could be arsed climbing under there and checking too closely.
