AUS diff = borgwarner, found in many Aus cars

JAP diff = banjo-type, found in many toyotas...

thanks for the nice comments guys, hopefully will be doing laps round the park tonight.

in regards to your question blair, to be honest i have no real idea lol. what i do know though is that the tailshaft flange on the diff is different between the two diffs, and considering i had an auto and borgwarner diff (different tailshaft output on the toyoglide) i had to get the right tailshaft to suit the k40 box. which happened to bolt up to a jap diff (which a mate of mine had lying around) so i picked that all up as an entire drivetrain conversion.

i hope that sorta helps, im not very good at explaining stuff sorry

anyway, in other news, i just ran the 4k at idle for 15 or so minutes, and it sounds healthy. just need to drop the oil out again and refill it with new stuff. about to get started on the diff swap also which should be fun.

also got myself a macbook pro today (which i am writing this entry from). shit is so good! haha.

peace gangsters, prepare for more updates soon!

so anyway, todays update is that it runs - but not that well.
seems to be puffing alot of white smoke out the back, and cant figure out why. oil level is not dropping at at all, so i cant imagine the rings are gone.
it idles quite ok, and then once you get it spinning a bit faster, more white smoke comes out the back and i gets hesitant and sounds like it is missing or there is a probem with timing or something.

anyone have any insight into the wonderful world of 'k' engines for me?

White smoke = water vapour? ie. BHG maybe.

Any milkshakes happening under the oil cap?

well yeah we just replaced the headgasket, so im unsure if the headgasket itself is screwed. it has been like this since the first startup last night.
i can confirm it is water vapour though, sitting back and watching the zorst shows droplets flicking out every now and again.

i just dropped the oil for the second time, the oil beforehand (i bought it knowing it had a BHG) was milkshake and had been sitting around in the engine for a while before i got it.
im thinking i just need the keep flushing the oil and get all of the old shitty stuff out that has been mixed with water, and until then its going to keep smoking.

in regards to the hesitaton, it only does it when in gear and driving. the engine revs out fine in neutral or clutch in. this is still bothering me and i cant figure out why?
