I'd doubt it. Without it hooked up to anything, it won't send a signal, therefore just as useless as not having it
Has anyone tried removing the speed sensor from the fwd tranny of the 20v and plugging it on the 20v rwd setup without actually planting it on the T50 transmission. Does it remove the speed sensor error code?

From memory (Anthony knows all this stuff), there is an existing speed sensor on the AE86 dash that is not normaly used. It is a read switch that gives a pulse 4 times per rev of the speedo cable. Look for it on the dash circuit board. You can use this.
Jonny's right. You can get the signal from the AE86 dash.
- EDIT, just saw your avatar is an E7. I doubt they have a speed sensor output. But you could also build one.
a long while back there was some pictures of someone putting a magnet and reed switch attached the body and tailshaft, I hear it works well
