    Default JDM Diff overhaul

What parts are available off toyota to overhaul the rear axle, the diff has a slight whine,
    86 JDM
I presume that if I walk into a brisbane toyota dealership with a JDM chassis number they will not deal with me.

Most little parts are the same as any T series diff, so you can actualy just walk into Repco or some place and say you have a T-18 or Celica or Corona etc. That will be good for buying pinion seal, or a diff rebuild kit containing side bearings, pinion bearings, pinion seal, pinion nut and maybe the colapsable pinion spacer.

Alternatively, the bearings have a number on them and you can get the same from any industrial bearing shop.

But if it has a whine, you only have a slim chance of fixing it with new bearings. The crown wheel and pinion would probably need to be replaced, and installed by a mechanic. You can buy this from Toyota, easier if you have the part number handy. Someone here will give a part number if you know what ratio you want.

Or get a good second hand gear set.

All overhaul parts are available from Toyota.

Thanks Jonny, Are CW&Ps hard to get (new to Aus) or is there a more common ratio pinion available.

Yes, that is your diff. The non-LSD version. All the bearings and serviceable parts are the same on the LSD version. The normal ratio for a AE86 is 4.3:1. I priced one at Toyota once, was heaps of course. For expensive new Toyota stuff, there is always a few options if it gets too hard. You could get an importer to get his man buy the part new in Japan, and have it sent here in their container. Sometimes it works out better.

    41201-29207 final drive kit, 4.3:1

That is a kit that comes with pinion seal, pinion nut, spacer and crownwheel bolts.

Try changing your diff oil first, can do wonders.

Or, just throw a banana in your diff.

According the the catalogs, not all Apex models had LSD. So the picture is correct, only there is another picture showing LSD also.

I just went to that website, seams good. At the picture off the diff, it is 1 illistration of 2. Click next, and you will see the Toyota LSD (a rare item in Australia, most being swaped with a TRD).
