    Default Thermostat

i'm sure this has been covered or possibly a silly question, but i did try searching first and didnt get the exact answer i was after. ive got a bigport 4age complete RWD setup and i need a new thermostat, i just popped down to supercheap and got whatever they had listed for the FWD ae82 bigport (was the same for almost every corolla 4age/ac). so was just wondering if this will work for my setup.

Although i would never doubt Sam's wisdom but ive tried the fwd one with epic failure.

I found that rwd setups need a shorter thermostat. 55mm v's 45mm depth if memory serves me right.

If you want a thermostat for a rwd 4age, just look at what's needed for an ae86/ae71 4ac. Same housing setup, same thermostat. (in which you will find pretty much all 4a's use the same one).

But always check the new thermostat works before installing (the amount of dud ones ive had from the shops is amazing... even genuine too!)

I've used both types. If you put them side by side you will find they are the same height

    Sorry to thread hijack,

Could the thermostat be at fault for my water temp gauge on the cluster working the past few weeks then not working now?

    No.

either the gauge, the temp sensor or the physical connection between them.
