Default Noisy+ not down shifting into 3rds

i know this is a common problem but i'd like to know how much it'd cost to fix it
or if there are any quick fixes like gearbox fluid choices. so far i'm just using manufacturer recommendation from Castrol

    i guess my questions are

    1. whats wrong? why cant i throw back into 3rds and i have to fake a 2nd gear?
    2. quick fix vs replacement?
    3. approx how much and who? (general mech etc?)

    JDM T-50 btw

    Appreciated guys

    Terry

Sounds like your 3rd gear synchro is stuffed.

You can pull the box apart and replace it (though I've read only some of the required parts are still available) but in my opinion it'd be cheaper and easier to find a good replacement and throw that in. I can't comment on different oils and the magic they work.

Or simply live with it and double clutch on 4-3 shifts. It'll become second nature in no time.

Chuck some Auto GBox oil in if you're keen, its alot thicker.

Helped a tiny bit in mine...

hen, its already become 2nd nature shifting like that but i thought with end of financial year i want to see if i can do something about it
well then on to my next set of questions
    1. when replacing a gearset, would that solve the problem or are synchros a separate issue? (heard some sets are designed for shorter ratios etc)
    2. are there sets out there that are cheaper but just as awesome as TRD
    3. and finally, the aim in the next 5 years or so is to hit the 200hp mark NA, so would it hold up? or should i jst go W58? (id rather something light i.e keeping T50)

sorry for all the noob questiions guys

Buy a rebuild kit. I think I have one here to sell. Has all the synchros, bearings, seals but not the selector-hub-thingies.

Gearset is only the gears. You normally put new synchros and other stuff with a new gearset unless it's dog engagement where no synchros are used.

i beleive dex 3,Type-J, Ford 4 speed, oils (auto oils) are a lot thinner then normal (75-85, 80-90, 85-140) gear oils

double clutching+rev matching is the way and never look back. itll make you a better driver and you wont need synchros

rev matching doesnt stick either. how much would a rebuild kit set me back? and any links to a race gearset would be awesome (TRD is overpriced). il save up for all that and do it altogether.
i hear there are some jap brands out there which are just as good (gearsets) without the extreme price of TRD

    No it isn't.

Yes they are, and can help a box that has half way had the dick as both you and blair said. Use Dexron 3. Standard fare Automatic Transmission Fluid for a falcadore.

    Do this.

ALOT. FAR more than trying to find another box.

Hell, you could almost convert to a W5x for the price of an aftermarket gearset and rebuild. Maybe even an AZ-6 conversion done on the cheap. Maybe not. HA. Refer to my edit below.

1 - Seperate Issue. But if you gave it to a gearbox joint they'd certainly tell you how fucked they are and how badly they need replacing and how long your wallet is going to have to spend in hospital recovering from the ordeal.
    2 - Quaife?

Only 3000 pounds, dog engagement, straight cut. You get a dog-leg first, too!

3 - If you're staying NA and going for the 200HP mark and you're not racing in IPRA go for a 6spd AZ6 conversion. If you can't afford it then just do the W5x.

You can have any brew you want... as long as it's a Datsun / Corolla / What is that?
