Default AE71 not firing after manual conversion

Hi guys, as some of you mayu know stahlz_ae86 carried out a manual conversion on his white ae71. The conversion itself is now complete, all wiring is connected up but the car wont turn over, let alone fire. We are aware of a cut out switch that the autos have, but we replaced the loom with a manual unit and connect up all the plugs where appropriate - incl the starter motor.

When Paul turned the key you can hear the ignition and the noise in the engine bay, but thats as far it goes. So close to running, but not quite.

    Any suggestions would be apprecited.

Did you leave your earth strap from the motor to the chassis off? First thing to check.

    Then

Check starter trigger wire has power at crank
    Check starter has B+
Check resistance to from starter to -ve terminal
Check resistance in starter B+ wire
Rig up relay setup for starter trigger to ensure good trigger
R&R starter if none of this works.
You can have any brew you want... as long as it's a Datsun / Corolla / What is that?

There was a spark that happened when I forgot to disconnect battery before putting wire on starter so that may have killed a fuse, I'll check fuses tomorrow first. What you just said then Javal reminds me that I'm yet to connect the T-50 earth wire, but we never disconnected the engine earth. Hopefully there's not too many drama's tomorrow getting it going, it's a pretty simple car really.

i never had a earth on the box, only 2 on the engine. never had a issue.

try discounecting the battery and reconnecting it. on day when i was adjusting the timing on my but i let the spanner short out the battery from the starter to the bolt on the dizzy. disconnected and reconnected the battery and was all good after that.

kinda like it has a trip switch for the starter or something???

and really you shouldnt need an earth strap to the box it is bolted on the engine which has one

The more earth straps the better I guess. If it was there from the factory I assume it should be re-connected if it's already hanging off the box. It's not going to drain my life (like driving an AE82 every day) to connect one wire, haha.

Turns out the reason it was not starting was my fault for not connecting the small wire to the correct terminal. I had it on the terminal closer to the engine instead of the other one closer to the strut. No dramas, all good now, starts and runs sweet. Looking forward to taking it out for a run during the week if I get time. Gotta re-fit a couple more little things.

Anyone want to buy a nice AE82? My old daily is up for cheap arse sale with rego to December.
