i suppose their is an optimum size mag/tyre combo for any car. bigger is not always better (*cough*20s on falcodores*cough*)

it effects the loading of the suspension, the rate the suspension moves,
if a tyre is wider and heavier, you can get what ke70dave is talking about, but sometimes if the wheel is heavier it reduces the amount it pulls on the steering wheel,
the unsprung mass you have in the front wheels, the better your suspension can effectively work, allows the wheels speed when turning (outside wheel has to turn more than inside) to change more easily with less load, allows the brakes to work more effectively, less loading on components,
the rear, greater rotational mass can sap torque, making it harder to get snappy revs and or snappy wheels spin, or wheelspin in general, again all the suspension stuff, when you hit a bump more weight is going to be thrown upwards against springs and dampeners,
and they are harder to take on and off
