    Default 20valve camshafts yo

as the title states this is a question about 20 valve camshafts.

i am going to put in some bigger camshafts into my ae101 20 valve motor which will be used for drift and some motorkhana type driving, but mostly drift.

there isn't much info out there (that i have been able to find) so far the people i have called are not very helpful. so i was wondering what you guys have used and your experience with them.

i would prefer to use vvt still, so something that complements vvt operation would be good. all tho i haven't ruled out just using adjustable gears and no vvt

    thankyou in advance

To keep VVT, you need cams from Toda. They have an Australian distributor. But if you are using different cams, I assume you have a programable computer? Maybe the stock computer can run mild cams. And if you have a programable computer, you realise the VVT will be another pain in the brain to work out.

Kelford in NZ also do 20v cams.

yeah i will be using an aftermarket ecu. most probably going adaptronic. it shouldn't be too hard to set up vvt with an aftermarket ecu.

if worse comes to worse i will wire up a apexi rsm to control switching points in conjunction with the ecu to control operation of the vvt.

but like i said in the first post i am still open to the idea of scrapping the vvt as long as its worthwhile

Also i am aware of who doed cames and whats needed to run them. All i am interested in is what profiles people have used.

H8CHIR6KU: first up tell us about your current engine state and the mods it has recieved.

I have driven back to back between my car and a Shelldrake's who is on here and in the forums. We both have ported 20Vs running on Wolf V4s. The biggest difference is that I have stock cams and he has 9.5mm lift 270 degree cams with VVT still being used. Looking at out dyno graphs between our engines on the same dyno he had a lump of extra torque at mid range revs while my torque curve is dead flat. Also mine starts to drop at 6600 and comes back up again but his keeps going to a 5kw higher in the top end.

    hey sam. cheers for that.

btw its me aaron (mechs blue). did you get my e-mail bout those water plates?

the car is gonna be pretty simple. stripped and good suspension. the engine will just be standard quad throttles with trumpets and socks and extractors. the ecu will more than likely be adaptronic running 4 bosch coils. and then whatever cams i end up choosing.

Talk to Tighe Cams in Brisbane. They have a couple of different grinds available - around $800 from memory.

I'm running a set of theirs (specs are at home) on a Silvertop that are mild enough for everyday street use, but give a good boost to midrange and a little more at the top. They run with VVT still, controlled through a Haltech and switching at around 2500 from memory.
