    Default Fluid in brake booster?

I'm respraying my engine bay and removed the brake booster along with everything else.
I had it sitting pedal side down today while I was painting, after an hour or so I picked it up to find a large puddle of dark fluid, I'm assuming brake fluid. I can still hear more inside sloshing around, so I'm going to drain it all out.

Is this common when a master cylinder goes and begins to leak? And by simply draining it all out and replacing the master cylinder, will my problem be solved?

If it's really dark, it can be oil - meaning at some point in its life, the one-way valve was fucked in combination with an engine that has positive crankcase pressure resulting in your brake booster turning into a catch can. I've seen if before. Brake fluid is normally alot lighter than this.

The viscosity of the fluid will help you determine what it is - if it's thick and dark / light and thin.
You can have any brew you want... as long as it's a Datsun / Corolla / What is that?

mine used to leak, i think there may have been some brake fluid in the booster. anyways i ended up replacing it because it wouldnt keep a firm pedal, kept on seeping a bit of air in. problem fixed with a spare cylinder and booster.

Did you have to constantly add fluid before?, If you can hear it sloshing around there will be a fare bit in there. Javal's on the money

yair what Dr. Javey said. either engine oil from poo pcv or leaky master. Is the paint under the master all wrinkly/stripped?

Yeah, should have given more description.
Yes the paint was stripped under the booster,
the fluid is a low viscosity (exactly like brake fluid)
I have only driven the car on track a handful of times and didnt notice anything strange with pedal feel and also didnt have to keep topping up the brake cup but as I said didnt use the brakes constantly.

So long story short, I'll drain the fluid, replace master cylinder, and see how pedal feels after that.

thanks for reply's lads, and Javal I havnt seen a question you cant answer, thanks walking 86 encyclopedia
