    Sick and tired of this being asked so I found my wiring guide I wrote a couple of years ago on the old forum. This is mainly applicable to ADM AE86 and AE71.

    KE70 are a little different, noting that:
    -alternator wiring setup on a KE70 is different, but colours you need to connect to are the same.
    -black/orange ignition wire for coil (may not be black/orange) is on oposite side of engine bay so you need to extend this to the passenger side.

    ADM AE86/AE71 Passenger side strut tower houses the external regulator for the 4ac alternator. 2 wires from the body side plug required are:

    Yellow: Lamp (L)
    Black Yellow: Ignition (IG)

    Connect the appropriate wires using the diagrams from the link above (wire colours on new alternator plug may be the same as the ones on the car - usually the case if you use a fwd loom). The sense wire (S) is a white wire connected to battery, but I usually tap it into the bolt on strap (main battery feed - usually two thick white wires) as it goes to the battery terminal. Note that I recommend upgrading the bolt on strap wire currently used on your 4ac as the 4age alternator produces a higher output.

    *Assuming bigport* When using my info, Refer to Club4AG AE86 ECU pinout/wiring diagram
    Other then that:

    -give ignition power to positive terminal on coil (usually a black/orange wire which connects to the ballast resistor on the old coil which you can use [I did], but you can make your own relay to power coil using the black/orange wire as an ignition trigger)

    -On 14 pin plug, Pin 7 (+B1) and Pin 14 (+B ) can be connected together, and go to ignition (or can come off a relay you used for coil power)
    -On 14 pin plug, Pin 6 (Batt) goes to constant battery 12V source (ie wire straight from positive terminal on your battery if you want, fused - 7.5amp should be the max you need). There is a battery power wire found in the passenger side kick panel wiring junction box (big thick white wire). Tap into this instead of running an ugly wire through your engine bay.

    For fail safe starting, you may also need to give power to injectors (Yellow wire found on 10Pin plug, Pin 10 (BF)) by joining a wire into the yellow wire and giving it 12V on iginition (again, use the same relay that you may have used for coil, but might be drawing too much current).

    There ARE other ways to do it, and probably make it neater and more factory like but that works.

    Fuel pump relay setup (if you dont have a factory COR relay).


    Smallport:
    Most of the above is the same and applicable (obviously look at smallport wiring diagram/ecu pin outs!) except that injector wiring is a little different. They are powered by a black/red (or black/orange - seperate to the black orange on the igniter/coil) ignition wire, you may have to locate it on your loom and give it 12v on ignition. Basically in short, you want to make sure black/orange wire on the loom has 12v on iginition and black/red has 12v on iginition. That way your coil/igniter has power and your injectors have power.

    Smallport looms are also very short, will need extending about 60-80cm to make them work properly. It also needs manipulation to make the wires run the correct direction. You can be lazy and go through the a/c port, but this only sort of just works. You can drill another hole in firewall near your heater box, which will then give you enough length to put your ecu just behind your a/c duct/bridge pipe.

    Im going to add to what Nikko has said.......with pics......

    First of all, this is what a 4 pin relay looks like:



    For our purposes and almost all conventional uses, here is what the pins do:

    30 - Goes directly to battery 12v + through appropriate fuse
    87- Goes to the object that you want to give power to ie fan, light, coil
    85 - from a trigger to activate the relay, this can be either a positive or negative. For our purposes its 12v IGN. So a source that only has 12v once you have turned the key to the 'ON' position.
    86 - This goes to ground to complete the trigger circuit.


    1) This is how i wire up 12v ign to the coil using one relay and an existing wire in the engine bay (This is a ke70), as he has stated there is a black/orange wire on the passenger side of the engine bay. Pictured here:



    You use this as the trigger to activate the relay. Connect this wire with the existing terminal on it to 85 on the relay.

    Here is the relay positioned in the engine bay, you can see the trigger wire and the earth wire (terminal 86):



    Pictured here is the coil with the added 12v IGN wire from terminal 87 on the relay:



    Lastly run a wire from terminal 30 on the relay to the battery +ve.

    If you have followed these steps exactly, then when you turn the key to the 'ON' position, you will power up the ignition system of the 4age and all you have to do if power the ECU and injectors and it will start.

    Here is a Bigport JDM ecu:



    If you look to the far left plug (10pin) there is a YELLOW wire in the bottom right hand of the plug. This is the INJECTOR power wire that you will need to give 12v IGN power too, just like the coil.

    Also note, there is a plug missing!!!! IT IS VITAL THAT YOU GET THE CORRECT BODY LOOM PLUG as it is not part of the engine loom.
    I cannot tell you the amount of times ive gone to do a wiring job and its been missing!

    Cool, I would have taken pics but i don't have looms/ecu's to take pics of anymore

    More info regarding JDM AE86 rwd 4age ZENKI loom:

    The firewall plug which houses the temp, oil pressure, reverse lights and starter also houses the Black/orange ,Yellow injector wire and tacho signal. If you want to be tidy when powering your injectors you can put a male connector into your adm body side plug. This also effectively makes it plug in instead of tapping into the wires at the ecu side.

    On a KOUKI loom, the yellow injector wire is together with the black/red efi main wire located near the coil on a standard 2pin molex plug.

    With reference to this pic:


    The big pin in the middle is actually the black/red efi main wire used to put the ecu into on/run mode. If traced all the way back it leads to a connector near the engine bay fuse box/coil. Its a 2pin plug with one used (on a zenki loom) or 2pin plug with 2 pins used (on a kouki, black/red and yellow injector wire). If you give the power to this point you dont need to run another wire with the loom into the cabin. This wire is thick enough to power(factory use):

    -ECU (ON mode)
    -Fuel Pump (is used in the [Fuel]COR).

    That is all for now, going to add dash wiring later

    ok this has me stumped.

    i have followed this and i have 0.8 instead of 12 running through the car and i have no spark from my leads....

    really shitting me to tears!

    The rear plug on the alternator is.

    With the Lamp where does this wire go to?
    So i know its the yellow wire coming from the plug, which then mine is wired into a blue wire which then goes no where. see pic below.



    where is it ment to be wired to?
    if its not connected should the alternator still charge?

    any info much appreciated.
