thats crazy man.
i was buying new ones from perth brake parts for $110.
Car - ae86, rhd
motor - 4age/4ac - does it matter?
use - daily/drift hack
problem - looking for aftermarket brake master cylinder options
occurs/started when - I decided I wanted a new one
personal situation - eh?
Details below:
Gday,
Want to replace my brake master, would prefer a new one rather than reco'ing the existing one. I believe its just an adm one, but am not 100% sure on how to tell the difference between it and jdm.
Was quoted
$750 for Toyota genuine replacement - fark that.
$260-$350 to reco my one through local clutch and brake shop - still f-ing expensive imo.
I have PBR part numbers JB1555 for the m/c itself, and K8541 for the seal kit. I rang PBR who told me these items are discontinued and there is no stock left.
My question is - what other aftermarket brand options are there for brake masters?
I know that I can use ones from other cars, but I would prefer to get the original ae86 part if possible.
Looks like I will be using something else and making new lines to suit at this stage though.

I found some ebay ones from the USA, though I think the LHD ones do not have a front outlet port like our ones. Will look into it more. $110 new for aftermarket is much more along the lines of what I was expecting to fork out.
those prices are ridiculous! where are you located? i know theres a place on the north side of brisbane that reco's them for $80.
Am a bit south of newcastle, don't really have any hook ups for this kind of work. I'll keep hunting, no major problem to use one from a different car. I'm from brissy though, what's the name of the place?
brisbane master cylinder exchange i think
I know it doesn't help, but i just sold a BRAND NEW AE86 master cyl for $40!!!!!
Why cant you just use a reco kit (piston/seals) for your current one? They are availiable from autopro for $25. They are not too hard to do it yourself, just common sense. Use a manual if your not sure...

Might be the ticket. Stupid thing is, I rang the local auto pro & was told the rebuild kit is discontinued which agrees with PBR saying the saying the same thing to me. There might be old stock left in circulation is some stores though. Sometimes you just get your chain yanked by these stores though, depends who answers the phone...
Also found a brand called Protex which are available in AUS. They still use the PBR part numbers so it looks like they are picking up the slack on PBR's discontinued line. Retail for JB1555 is $353 though, half the price of oem but I still wouldn't pay close to that. Maybe I'm just a tight arse.
I will strip my mc tonight and check the bore.
Yeah, those prices are crap, there are cheaper solutions out there....
Iif you want, after you check to see if the bore is still ok, and it is, let me know and I can try to get the reco kit from my local store, then send it to you..... I wont charge any extra for my time, as I am there often getting parts for my many car projects....
Or
I have the standard (used one) that I took out of my car when I did my brake conversion. Worked perfectly, I just replaced it with an R32 master.... If you want that cheap, let me know.......
