I have been informed this a good one.
That said, I totally forgot to do anything with mine when I locked it..

Just a quicky, keep the BS out please (if you feel the need, find some rope .. you know the rest..)
I'm going to be sealing up my diff in a couple of days, i'm just wondering who has used what, and what leaked / didn't.
I'm pretty sure with all my S-series diffs i used sealant, and never had a problem (as i was forced to replace the diff centres as regularly as oil-changes, so they never really even got the chance to leak..), but the cheap sealant shit we used in Robo86's diff DEFINITELY leaked.
We have since used a paper gasket on his (with a bit of permatex red) and all seems to be purdy.
Although i have been getting mixed opinions from the interwebs that, in this case, sealant is often the way to go and that paper gaskets have AIDS.
So, what's the G-O?
** Please note, i am not interested in anything other than DIFF sealing **

There are lots of options. It is not critical.
I used genuine Toyota Red Silicone today. I paid nothing for it. Any silicone will work good. Any leak will only be from the pinion seal or axle seals after that.
The paper gasket is only good back in the factory, where both surfaces are new and clean. After that you need a liquid sealant.
Sealant 100%.
I use the highest temp blue stuff to seal mine. I bought a caulking gun load of it. Works very well.
Thats all my mechanic will use too, but his is grey. Must be even better.
I generally just use sealant on them. Sometimes they leak, sometimes they don't.
The more expensive sealant generally works better.
FYI, Lots of modern cars don't use gaskets for things like sumps and timing covers anymore - they just use specialized sealant - which i will be using along with gaskets when i reassemble my motor
But, if the gasket is readily available and cheap - which, the masses might be keen to know how much and where you purchased it from - it is probably a better option.

You can have any brew you want... as long as it's a Datsun / Corolla / What is that?
Ta kids, that pretty much sums it up for me, thanks
To add my 2c, I've always used whatever silicone sealant stuff my handyman dad had lying around at the time. It never leaked badly enough for me to notice before I was under there to change axles/centres anyway.
Unless you had a massive pile of them I reckon a paper gasket would be a pain if you were regularly pulling your centre out.
Hen
i used form a gasket works great no leaks
selleys roof and gutter, not joking either
