Had the same problem with my 16v,
replaced the standard viscous fan with thermo.
Havent broken a waterpump since.
Its because the stando fan isnt balalnced properly.
hey guys today my slivertop 20valve 4age shat another water pump this afternoon only installed my other one bout 3months ago( thank god still under warranty) it has cracked in the exact same spot which leads me to believe i have a underlining problem
this is were it cracked
want to know
A is this a common problem?
B any ideas has to whats causing it??
im thinking either the pump is flexing from the vast amount of engine vibration which my has a lot of due to tuning issues when cold...
or its my fan ( which i intend to get rid of in place of new rad and twin thermo setup)
this water pump was not a genuine toyota one either was a cheap brand but getting a new toyota one ordering it 2moro
any help i would be grateful
cheers

ok sweet has was goin to go twin thermo set up in a couple of months has well lol
do you just run the water pump without the pulley just like it is in the photo??
also how have you set up your thermos... low/high range temp sensors or just turn on at certain temp then off at a temp??
you need the pulley on it to work
as for thermos you buy a controller and set the temp for it to on then off when it get below that
Mines done on relay,
think its about 85ish degrees,
only run a single 12" thermo with a triple core radiator,
has never ever got hot,
(even with towing jetski, 44degrees and a/c on)
go electric davies craig water pump.
no power drain from motor.
Bingo, don't ever try to run a clutched fan off a FWD water pump, the housing will usually crack within a few months as the bearings collapse from the load.
For running thermos, I picked up a hyundai excel radiator on the weekend, it has the temp switch in the radiator tank.... no controller required (only a relay for power)
