the coil will have positive power when ACC is on as it equalises both sides, once it fires you will get neg and pos
and yes i would dare say your meant to have power to your dissy when the ACC are on
hey guys i have an issue with my car not starting up. Now ive isolated the problem and it appears that im not getting any power to distributor via the to connecting cables which connects from the loom to distributor (not leads e.g. coil lead --> distributor). Ive replaced the coil with brand new one.
I dont have a wiring diagram so when the car is switched to ACC is there meant to be power running through that cable or only when you turn it over? (cos im not getting any power at all) Otherwise it could be a module problem within the distributor.
If anybody can help me that one be muchly appreciated. Also i have another issue with my coil now having to positive connections?? argh even though the wires are connected back exactly the way they were in the first place.

cheers man thanks heaps. So that solves one concern, the other problem is that now i have to trace the whole bloody wiring through the loom and see where it got fried?? thats bs
can someone confirm that there is meant be power to the dissy when ACC is on (that is through the cable, not leads)
correct if im wrong but there are a few cables running into the dissy, how do you know which one is meant to be getting power?
im not entirely sure to be honest im just ruleing out the possibilities, otherwise it could most probably a module problem

just to confirm, you have a 3 wire dizzy correct?
I'm pretty sure you should have pos to the coil, pos to the igniter, but there shouldnt be any pos to the dizzy.
the dizzy should have 3 wires that run to the ecu, which should be G1 G- and NE which should be cam sensor, crank sensor and earth, pulses are generated by a magnet and thus dont need a pos.
chuck a multimeter on your loom and check for continuity between the dizzy plug and the red, black and white wires on the big plug to your ecu.
PS I have a spare bp dizzy and 2 spare igniters and coils here

as craig said. bigport dizzy is 3 wire, smallport is 4.
take your time with the multi metre and find which wire is the problem. it is time consuming but it is cheaper to do it yourself than have someone else do it. i went through a similar issue with my TPS loom.
hi mr bigport thanks for the help mate that explains things abit better and yep 3 wires. I might have to just do that. But i honestly i dont where it went wrong must of short circuited somewhere :s
Ill double check all the leads tmr again.
when i did my first conversion I'd been given a "lengthened" ae82 loom, i had all sorts of ignition issues and thus ended up with a second computer, second igniter, second coil etc etc.
it turned out that there were 2 wires on the loom that were the same colours with slightly different trace stripes that had been soldered around the wrong way....drove me nuts
