Celica Engine Gbox options, calling all celica fanboys

Hello everyone,

I have been playing with the 86 for far too long as a result i dont know shit about rwd celicas.

I have a 79 Celica 2000, It has a 18r engine with a w50 gearbox.

Just want to know what kind of engine can be mated to the w50, the shift throw to reverse is shocking.

Also what are the popular engine swaps, 4age t50?, 3sge? ls1?

also how good reliable and modifiable are the 18r engines and dont they come in hiluxes?

while we are happy to have you here you should be on Toymods. There is a massive thread on toymods about the 18rg which is the twin cam version of your engine. Before posting make sure you do a search there, you will need to register first. Keep in mind they are often a nostalgic bunch and make emotional decisions about keeping old engines because it feels right or something. The 18R engines are old and finding people to do a good job tuning those carbs can be an issue. Me personally I would want something more reliable, smoother and more fuel efficient. In your car I think a 3sge beams engine would be a total win. Kaizen workshop on here sometimes gets them in, check out the sponsors section.
