Default smallport loom wiring - problem with wire colours

    Car - adm AE86/sprinter

    motor - smallport 4age

    use - conversion

problem - don't know where these wires go

occurs/started when - trying to wire up the loom

Okay just want to make sure i have got the right idea with the brown earth wires here, please see pics. Also there are quite a few yellow/black and black wires that look pretty much identical and hard to tell which engine part they goto. I have a multimeter which is how i found whre 5 of the brown wires go (they all join together!) then goto a lug underneath the arrow in the pic.

I know how to use the multimeter, but don't really know where these engine parts or plugs are from the loom or... I'm sure someone on here has dealt with this nightmare before and hoping they could give me some good advice or tell me an easy way to identify what pin of what plug goes to what wire... Thanks in advance, I will really appreciate any help here...

    Nathan

club4ag, technical, jdm redtop/smallport/ae92/whatever they call it=> ecu pin number, wire coulour + function. You can figure out the rest from there.

yellow green is dash water temp gauge
yellow black is dash oil pressure sender/switch. smallport cars have oil lights or oil pressure gauge? Need to match the sender to car.
    The browns are just earths.

wtf are you doing? did you get a loom cut off at the firewall and trying to piece it together back to the stock ecu plugs that you got from somewhere else?

ive already done yellow green.. the thing is all of those yellow wires have a black stripe. Ecu pinouts i already have but all these wires i havent done yet have the same colours and stripes so pinouts arent helpful in this regard. I need to know where to test the parts on the engine so i can solder it to the pinouts for the wires i have left over. Yeah i got the ecu and loom from an ae92 but the douche i bought it from cut it at the firewall

Thanks! I think I'll be right with the brown and yellow.. Now I'm just worried about the black ones...

Where abouts on the engine can i test VSV, Knock sensor, and idle up diode? These should be some of the black wires. Just don't know where these ones are..

    Cheers

Oh, you don't actually know what those things are? Now we're getting somewhere.

Knock sensor is on the block about the middle of cylinder 4. Might be a shielded wire.
Dizzy will be shielded along with the red and white and another wire.
Idle up VSV, no idea where that is on smallport loom. I think it is on the airbox so follow your loom that way.

I dunno what an idle up diode is?

Thanks a lot, that helps me a bit.

Done the dizzy already and all the brown wires too. Here is what I have left now:

2 black wires with sheilding both light grey outer insulation
    - (there was another exactly the same but dark brown insulation, already done)

3 Yellow wires with black Stripes
    7 Black wires all up
    - 3 With brown dots
    - 2 with orange stripe
    - 1 with brown dots and orange stripe
    - 1 other that has been joined from two others (orange stripe)

and of course the 3 thicker wires on the left, but these will be easy to match up.

    this is getting frustrating

blacks are injectors, tach?, 02(probably shielded)

black orange is power off ignition barrel related, feeds power to coil, ignitor, maybe injectors.

All I can say is start probing the wires you don't know to plugs you do know to get their function, then find that wire on the ECU pinout diagram and trace that pin to the wire in your giant mess.
