help burning oil smell

hey guys/gals,

when im driving my 86 , you can smell something like burning oil

there are no oil leaks on the car

im using castrol 10w-60

its a 4age blue top

is that oil just over heating?
oil cooler needed?

help please

mine has the smallest leak from the dizzy that drips on the extractors.. u cant see it cos by the time it has had time to drip it is burned off!

Do you have a hole in your gearstick boot or anything like that....If you do, all sorts of wierdo smells make their way into the cabin...

Maybe get a couple gauges to monitor if your worried....like oil pressure and temp...an oil cooler cant hurt but it has to mounted on the outside of the front bar.

probably not the best thing to write there. highly illegal. looks cool, but illegal.

also it could be your rear main seal, they often go, but get overlooked cause you can't see them

na no hole in the gearboot area
yeah i was thinking some gauges and a oil cooler

i cant smell it on start up , only when i drive it long than 30mins say

does it do it at start up? or is it all the time, if it does at start up then you will probably need thicker oil, something like a 20w-60 penrite HPR30

also another good way to tell is get a mate to drive behind you and see if he can smell the oil burning , if he does then you need thicker oil

hey, since were talking about oil thickness and leaks etc im just curious as to what the correct oil to use for my 4age motor is because when i serviced my engine i put 15w-40 shell helix, is this oil suited for the motor can it cause damage to the motor? the engine doesnt use any oil as i drove it like 450km and theres no oil loss, no noises however if this is the wrong oil thickness can someone tell me what is best suited for this motor
