oh yeah, how do you tell if it's a dodgy locker or not? is there an easy way to tell?
And is it the actually diff being dodgy or the install?
cheers
dave
my diff isn't a t series, and i have an open in mine at the moment. Just woried i was gonna brake a hole heap of axels n all sorts of stuff!
so it isn't too bad?
i don't wanna be under my car every week changing stuff because my locker breaks stuff if you know what you mean.
so some of you have them in and they aren't too bad?
DRiiFT_KING, the lsd is all yours. Have a look in the post

If you weld it in the proper place or take it to a diff place, it will last ages. If you chuck some bolts in and fill it with slag it will last 1 track day.
have welded many diffs in 86's now. This is my findings.
DO NOT USE TIG (aka stick welder) produces slag can be very hard to remove. use a MIG (the wire feed welder with argon bottle gas).
i have seen broken welds, so use a decent amount of weld on the gear teeth.
IMPORTANT, make sure each weld is the same size as each other on both sides of the centre. failure to do this may result in vibration when driving due to the diff centre being out of balance ( no need to have it checked or anything, just make sure the welds are even all over, this will suffice)
you can use bolts if you wish to fill space for the weld, i like to do it weld upon weld until the weld is nearly as high as the gears themselves. i prefer the overkill approach to minimise chance of breaking the weld
welding aus spec diffs usually last 1-3 months for me, with regular track visits. the crown and input shaft wear out or start breaking up.
i now have a T18 rear end and has lasted 2 months so far without a problem. these are much more reliable.
as for driving, they affect handling a lot. i had to relearn to drive my car with the locker in it the first time. can increase understeer a bit but with a little aggresiveness the tail end becomes easily upset and snappy, resulting in lots of fun. [depending on driving style and prefferences]
in conclusion lockers get my thumbs up, but not an aus spec cause they are jus too weak, and ive never seen a snapped axle, always a blown diff
yeah i got craig from extreme engineering to weld mine properly for me.
get some one who knows how to weld diff's to do it
sweet
so it's not really a good idea to put a locker in the aus rear end... I'll have to start looking around for a t series hey?
i'm just scared i'm gonna break someithing in the mountians and be stuck!
cheers all, appreciated
