    While im thinking about it,

Im planing to take my diff apart this weekend, I havnt even gotten under the car to have a look at what diff i have (read: lazy) .. anyway Im thinking of putting some welding skills to use and locking my diff (provided it can be done?)

Has anyone had any experience in playing with stock Aus spec diffs.
If it easy or hard to pull out..
any tips / instructions would be good too

    Cheers

    there easy to pull out.

but i heard they are a bit tricky to weld...

    anyway
    1. jack car up and put on stands
    2. take wheels off and take axles out
    3. un-do tail shaft bolts that conect to diff and let it drop.
    4. un-do all 8? bolts around diff centre
    5. un-do drain plug and drain the oil
    6. take diff centre out
    7. give it a bit of a clean(dont use degreaser as it will f*** your bearings)
    8. weld the small cogs together in the very centre of diff
    9. clean it up again (all the slag etc)
    10. put it all together opposite to how you pulled it apart.

this is a quick post. but im sure there is a more detailed thread in the tech section

    lol

    cheers

ps. this should be in another section.

Ive welded my aus spec diff up and i can say its a bitch todo!!!
The Aus spec center has to be pulled apart (I.E. you have to take the crown wheel off and also undo the center where the spider gears live)
Its not hard, just time consuming.
I took the spider gears out (and left them out) and just welded (Read: Sh*t loads of weld) the side gears to the centre housing
    good luck
    -Simon

BTW, my car has been locked for a couple of months now and it seems fine
