After hearing welded diffs aren't that bad for the street why is it that you don't really hear about hachi drivers/drifters using mini-spool in their T-series? I haven't researched further into it but it might even be possible to get a spool for an S-series diff as they are borg worner.

The point is, with a cheaper option compared to LSD but which also lasts longer than weld does anyone use them?

I have snapped a axle using a welded diff before. I was thinking I would go to a full spool, but figured that would be exactly the same (but lighter) and I would still snap a axle. The issue is, when the axle snaps is sometimes ruins the whole diff center. So I got a TRD LSD, which is good.

Nothing comes with a spool from the factory except an HRT V8 Supercar....

Spools and 'CIG lockers' etc are not a good idea for the road and are illegal.

they can be fairly reliable. i have quite a few friends who run them on the street.

one issue with reliability and a lock diff is setup. if you take youre carrier out, weld the centre, then throw it back in, you have no idea whether or not the welded process as affected the lash ect, i know after welding sometimes they feel a bit tighter.

another way to help your locked diff last longer is to give it a little while to warm up. when the axle steel is cold, just like all metals it is more brittle, if youre at the track, do some circles in the car park or something. if youre on the road, dont head out to the spot from dead cold.
