    Default Castor chopped guards.

    Hey guys,

Running a fair bit of Castor in the front of my ke causing the front wheels to scrape on or bend the guard. When cutting the corner of the front arch off do you have to run that little strut that holds the guard to the chassis? or can you completely get rid of it? How much do you need to cut off? Anyone got pics?

    Cheers,

    Alex

    best answer ever

start cutting, you'll know when youve cut enough....cuase it wont rub....

also why run so much castor! make the steering so heavy.

make sure you paint where you have cut, so it doesnt rust.

then maybe u didnt up you castor

or you fiddled with the toe settings, or put different steering arms in as well?

either way more castor = heavier steering, more grip and win

maybe he means steering is lighter for drifting because the wheel will do most of the work itself

changed to brand new tune agent castor rods... shortened by about an inch... basically set as short as possible.

nothing else was changed and the car def needs a decent wheel alignment, but yeah much muahch lighter on the stearing.

There is a diminishing return though, just because 4 deg is better than 1 deg, it doesn't necessarily follow that 8 deg will be better again. I wouldn't go dialling in 10 deg of pos caster straight away and cutting the guards to suit. Try 4 deg, then 5 and see if there is any discernable benefit. If there isn't leave it. If there is, go another degree and see if there is any improvement again. Etc.

Too much caster as well as being a waste of time, will pull the outside of the LCA forward too much causing the arm to bind and flog out the bush. You might find that this happens before the handling stops improving, meaning you need to mod the LCA pivot.
