The 1jz can handle an easy 280 rwhp, but the engine is too heavy for that. Really it's the car that's unbalanced and too light for the engine, but I won't get into that.

The power output your looking for could be easily reached with an sr20det, just grab a hks gt2830r ecu and some cam gears and your set. Later when you blown the engine put some forgies and dial it to 30psi (scary on boost )

    ^^^LOL @ dorio

could easily be reached by spending parts on the engine that cost more than the engine itself? lol

me think the ultimate question for you is, what's your budget?

afterall, if you have a stock sprinter with a 4ag/z/t/e, sr20de/t,2/1jzgte, 3sgte, ca18det, f20c, 13b, 20b and all the other engines that cost more than the car itself, it won't really mean shit when you hit the curves.

it also won't mean shit if you have the best car in the world but the shittest skills either.

rofl...i have to agree...nothing beats the smoothness & control of a tight na

have you really done your research on this? do you know anything about the longevity/reliability/cost?

    turbo 4a - gt2510, tdo4, vf12, gt28...nothing larger if you want to minimise lag
    sr/ca - gt28rs, gt2530 & over...theres heaps of options with these motors

conservative figures for a sr/ca conversion if you get a shop to do all the work would be about 8-10k (yeah yeah i know some people have done it for less...im taking an average)

4a breakdown would look something like this

    suspension 2k
    ecu 1.5-2k inc tune
motor 1.2k ( if you scavenge your ancillaries)
    fmic 500-1k
    turbo 400-1.5k

then throw on a few thou for labour. Of course parts & labour will be cheaper depending on who you know + your own skills but thats a rough estimate & i havent even gone near brakes or diff

how much $$$ you looking to spend?

on a side note...no disrespect, but how old are you?

$700 for a set of american forgies, doesn't sound expensive to me.

Anti-lag is actually very bad for your turbo seeing as you're inducing far higher exhaust temps to keep it spooling which will generally fry the turbine fairly quickly. There's some excellent info about it here:

and also a good thread on Toymods about it:

lol but you said the power of a 1jz can be easily reached with said parts

    anyways

before going on a engine conversion, you should really assess what your gonna lose. i'd love to be behind an sr20det'd sprinter, but i couldn't handle driving with the shifter position!
