    Hey guys,

My water pump is no longer working properly and needs to be replaced.

I'm new at all this, and would appreciate any pointers on how to go about changing the water pump on a 4ac.

Also, anyone got a link to a 4ac engine manual or something like that?

    Many thanks,

    Lok.

Pull off pump, buy a new one from repco, put pump back on.

Take the fan and fan belts off. May be easy to take radiator out also.
    Take timing belt covers off.
Take timing belt off, after first lining up the marks.
Take the thermostate and housing off, drain coolant.
Take the waterpump off, and take the two halves apart.
If the back half is corroded, you need a whole new pump.

Burson/Repco sell only the front 1/2 of water pump.
    Toyota sell the whole thing.

Clean old O-ring off the front of the block.

Fit new pump with O-ring, and maybe some silicon here and there for good luck.
    I love silicon.

Hey, i know this is a late reply. but to anyone whose lookin in this forum for similar help ill post anyway

I recently had to change my water pump as well. and someone on these forums was selling a 4ac with brand new water pump + filters for $60 dollars.. so thats how i got my toyota water pump for dirt cheap..

anyways.. i had no experience changing pumps, but my friends knew how to do it in theory.. after they mucked up 3 times.. they had to leave home.. newaiz.. i decided to take it upon myself to install it..

take out the radiator it will make things a lot easier.. (maybe cleaning/flushing your radiator will help ur new pump last longer)
take off the cam cover.. and remove the timing belt as u need acess to a bolt underneath.. (i didnt take of the timing belt personally as i wasnt confident about it.. it didnt really get in the way.. but it'd be easier)
remove the water pump, the thermostat and housing..
im not sure if your waterpump will come with all the gaskets u need.. i just used gasket sealant from silastic. that thing is awesome..
remove old gaskets with a blade and sand down the parts taht connect with each other (be careful not to warp it when sanding) when your ready to replace the pump it may be easier to put the housing, thermostat and pump as one.. as my friends had difficulty gettn everything to line up..
i doubled upp the o-rings in the housing and covered it up wit sealant (as that was where my housing was leakin as well)
when everythings in.. put back the timing belt, cam cover and radiator.
fill up the radiator and bleed it..

allow the sealant to dry over several hours, but preferably over nite..

hav fun.. i kno i did..
