I'm trying to figure out how much money I need to rebuild an engine to drop into my hachi. I'm looking at getting a 100kW, with 20v quads, hi-comp pistons and fully progammable ecu. It's easy to price the parts but can someone please give me an idea of the machining costs involved. How much is boring and honing of the bores? and balancing? How much is port/polishing of the head and can anyone recommend a place to do it in melb? This is somthing I don't fancy doing myself.

I hope to assemble the engine myself but out of curiosity generally how much is labor on a rebuild?

I realise prices can vary greatly but i'm just after a vague idea. Thanks.

bottom end rebuild on mine was about $400 including ACL 780 bearings, rings (with gapless top ring) linished rods, chemicle clean, only a good hone not overbore.. machine deack, new welch plugs, and seals, and i bought a new water pump.. but those prices are trade, and all the machine work/assey was done my myself and a mate, the head was the most expensive part.. it wasn't flat, machining wouldn't have been possible till it was straightened.. so it had to be straightened, then ported, then decked 20thou, and reshimmed with the cams with new stem seals, and guides.. that was just under $600 at trade!!! (port work done my mate from befor for free, i practised, but didn't want to screw it up! ) i could have got it done somewhere else cheaper, but they were way out of my way.. VRS gasket kit from repco was just under $100 trade again... my 4 puck clutch rebuild cos $180 with new pads/springs, and remachine pplate/flywheel.. put it all together myself, and installed etc myself.. quads i got for $200 quads adaptor i got for $249 USD from T3 USA.. adaptronic ecu + tune was $1300, i know your down south, but i'm sure Ant can work something out with making a loom and ecu combo you can do somthing with

thats pretty much project revs, and very very similar to what you want.. the only thing i didn't do that you want to, is high comp pistons.. i have the stock 100kw ones in mine still

Thanks for the replies guys. What exactly is done in the linishing process? Does anyone know the weight of standard 100kW pistons?
