Universal Pictures has secured sponsorship rights for the opening round of the 2006 Toyo Drift Australia Series.

The event which will be held at Mallala Motorsport Park in South Australia on May 27 & 28 will be sponsored by Universal's soon to be released movie 'The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift'.

“It is very exciting." said Drift Australia's Wayne Boatwright. “A lot of the stunt work in the movie was done by US Formula Drift stars like Rhys Millen who recently visited Mallala himself to run a drift training school. Universal expects the movie to be a huge success and there is no doubt that it will have a major impact on the profile of the whole drift scene." he added.

I smell a sellout. i feel my favourite sport is dying of corperate AIDS ...Drift Australia is a whore to the highest bidder.

I feel Sorry for the whole scene....Now this is the reason. that I like The Street Scene.
How many times have you seen kids playing on the Touge at night.

It's great how not only do 14yo fast and the furious fans confuse us with the drifters in the movie but so do these fully grown adults. *shakes head*

Formula drift is owned by Formula drift of America, so I guess there's not much boaty can do unless he's willing to find another job.
Pretty much summing up the movie:
American boy teachs everyone how its done.
American boy gets the babe, money and fame.
    THE END

Yeh, since when would the Japanese know how to drift, they're lucky that, that American guy can drift so well or else the Japanese would be just holding their car sideways at crazy angles and really close to each other on tracks like Ebisu. Thats not drifting.

    Damn Americans

since when is Drift Australia owned by the yanks?
But yeah this is kinda worrying, i dont think we have to worry to much though.
But a positive side to this is, drifting becoming more populer which means more track time!

^^ witch also mean more farkers trying to drift there perents dawoos and such. and then = more deaths of inocent drivers minding there own business cuz some one trys to drift outa the car park after watching the movie and so on and so forth. then all drifters get accused of been hoons even though the only do it on the track witch causes more attention to car lovers with only stickers on it witch really mean this movie isnt good....

    thats all

    ^^LOL what did you write?

This 2F2F movie is really bad for drifting
Wish there was a way to stop it
Maybe we could get a petition to the government to stop it from being released in Aus or something!!!
Say that it promotes dangerous street racing
