Alternator Help!!

hey all

i figured the hard way that there are two types of alternators for the 4kc - one with the regulator on the back of the alt. and one with the regulator attached to engine bay.

the one currently on my 4k has brokeded and i got a bosch replacement but it is the wrong type..i need the external regulated one.

if anyone here has any sitting around or for sale please reply here or PM me.

i am willing to swap for the bosch one.

also...would it just be simpler to swap the type of alternator? im not very good at wiring and stuff so how easy would it be?

The bosch unit is FAR better, and it is easy to wire up!

simply put the thick charge wire on the bolt as normal, then run one wire from the male blade terminal on the back of the alternator to the yellow wire in the plug that used to go into the external regulator.

if wired correctly, the charge light will illuminate when ignition is turned on.

and thats how you upgrade!

thought id need a replacement alternator in sa

had it tested and its still sparking etc.
so im getting the brushes replaces and the whole thing cleaned.

cant you return the replacement from where you got it?

might do that

got the whole alternator cleaned up. put it in today and she's running fine now.

was way easier to do that than switch all the wiring etc.
