They are only a benefit if you are having grounding problems. Basically all they do is get a good connection from your block and other electrical devices back to the negative terminal of the battery.

You do it yourself if you are having problems by running heavy gauge cable between the important points (mainly block, ignitors, headlights and ECU earth) and the battery.

they sorta make sense on old cars like 86's. because the factory earths are usually a little worse for wear (corosion/broken wires/strands/just been left out in engine conversions ect).

but you can achieve the same effect by servicing/replacing your stock earths. and its neater.

its actually been tested in some japanese mag back to back. earth kit v's servicing/replacing your stock earths. same results.

my 86 has an earth kit, i just left it on cos it came that way from japan and gives it that jap feel (to look at).

to sum up. earth kits are pretty ricey.

as my battery is in the boot, i just made sure that the neg has a nice fat earth cable, and just for good mesure, got some 8G amp wire and ran it to 3 other spots in the boot, like chassis rail, floor, back of backseat/parcel tray bottom.. then ran 1 or 2 extra to my head/block from the chassis at the front..

i was actually having dramas with the starter not earthing right.. so i connected it to the chassis seemed to work after that.. although the engine did have an earth, maybe it wasn't good enough? or covered in paint...

i put heaps of earth packs on cars at work with leads it is supposed 2 give a 5kw increase atw. plus we found out it makes the car sterio reception work alot further away than normal.

if u look at most cars comimg in2 aus from japan they earth everything. i saw this one car with like 10 wires comin off the engine.
