after you cut them file the end so there is no swarf. give them a paint so they look like new.

the only bad thing after cutting your springs is that when or if they jack your car up your springs wont be captive, so you may have to fix this.

The spring rate of any spring increases when you shorten it. Falcons are just better because they are stiffer to begin with (heavier car).

    that simple aye... thanx all

bloodchild: chopping springs makes them lower and stiffer it works front and back but the law doesnt like em because theres more pressure placed on the spring n they think it'll crack...nobs.... i had a topic on here a while ago and someone gave me this advice its very helpful "A lot of people frown on chopping springs but if you do it reasonably its not as bad as people make out.

Just dont chop out too much (about half a coil is ok 1 coil MAX). The stress on your springs will rise slightly but the rate will rise also with the height reduction. Also you dont want them to be uncaptive
Your shocks need to be in good condition/new/sports shocks, the spring rate will rise so you need the shocks to control them! Otherwise your car will have a crap ride and bounce around the place and be unsafe.

One bad point that has been made about chopping them is that the heat caused by it causes the surface hardness of the shot peened springs to be reduced, this resists crack the resistance of the surface meaning that the springs will take longer to fail by fatigue. Cutting them with an angle grinder essentially anneals the end of the spring making it tough but not as resistant to cracks. So use a hacksaw or a lubricated saw if you have access.

But really if you want some decent handling shocks are very important, spend money on good shocks and you wont regret it. In comparison custom springs will be fairly cheap."

"1 coil MAX" using falcon springs, people take almost 2 and a half coils out no worries?

with falcon springs.. you basically cut the spring in half. but that is of no relavence to cutting stock springs. i would say the best way not to get caught is not cut them so much your car is obviously too low.

yep dont cut the fronts to much at all. I cut my fronts really short. last friday night i had to brake suddenly and the car just bounced to a stop like it had hydraulics in the front. they can be dangerous..
