This will cover how to install the valves back into the head, i did this becuse i replaced the valve stem seals.

What you need, valve spring compressor, can be cheap from supercheap
    Twisers
    Hammer
SST - in my case a bit of cut metal for installing the valve keepers
    10/12mm soket
    Valves n stuff

Next put in the bottom valve retainer (flat peice of metal with lip)

This put the spring the right way up, the pic shows the corret way up, the closer together coils go down the bottom

Next place the valve retainer ontop

Now, you have to compress the spring levaing the valve up, use your spring compressor to tighen down the valve retainer so you can see the stem of the valve easily

Carefull not to scratch the surface of the head

I did not get any good pic of this part, so

Use you tweesers to place the valve keepers between the valve stem and the retainer, dont let the slide all the way down, the notch from the valve stem and the notch from the keeper have to line up, so having them a little under the stem notch always worked for me. This part is extreamly fidly and takes a few goes to get it right.

it once you relase the spring compressor, the valve keepers so lock into place, give them a tap with the 12mm socket to make sure they are seated proply, and your done

You forgot about first measuring the spring tension to see if any are dead.

or measuring the free length - should achieve the same thing AFAIK and easier to do.

i have done this before with a quick action G-clamp, might be an idea for all you DIY the hard way people.

to make installing the valve collets a bit easier, smear some rubber grease or similar on the collets before placing them on the valve stem. makes them stick to it a little, then wipe off the excess.

FWIW Meridian Motorsport in Melbourne sell a tool that installs the collets for you with a simple push. It's hard to describe, but it's so simple!
