    basically the same
    black top is better.
    silver top is cheaper.

its not a hard conversion to do .. but at the same time its not as easy as a 16v conversion.

Have a look at the last two engines the AE101 is the siver top and the AE111 is the black top. Basically the black top has a little bit more power is a newer engine and revs better. They do cost a bit more being newer but if money isnt a big problem definatley go with the black top.

Silvertop FTW. Yes, black tops are hotter. But is doubling the price worth 10hp or less?

If you plan to use the original ECU (which you probably aren't), remember blacktop is map and silvertop is airflow meter. Thus silvertop needs to use either the original airbox in front drive configuration, or a custom made well thought airbox for rear drive.

if you go aftermarket ecu you can do what you want.

this thread has been asnwered remarkably well.

ST w/aftermarket ecu is the best combo bang for buck. BTs are good but not worth the expense, they dont seem to make percieably any more power.

For standard ECU conversion, black top is the way to go as factory ECU tune with map vs TPS is great.

Aftermarket ECU either motors would do.

Black top has longer duration cams and higher valve lift. The cylinder squish areas are also different, bigger throttle bodies, lighter pistons and crank. New engine, less k's.

Silver top has stronger bottom end, heavier pistons, crank. Has better cam belt tensioner, smaller throttle bodies. Older engine more k's.

Depends what you are going to do with the motor in so far as mods... will mostly determine what engine you should buy.

    regards

    Ben
