Default T-series Diff Identification and Checking

    Hi,

I have a AE86 Sprinter diff fitted to a Clubman (Lotus seven style) car, I am trying to identify which diff series I have and if it is LSD or Open.

I have read this and found that the carrier has 10 bolts which suggests a T series diff.

To find if it is LSD or open I have tried jacking one wheel in the air. In neutral wheel turns freely, in gear wheel turns with friction have not checked against Torque setting but would estimate about 30nm. If I jack both wheels and turn one then the other turns in opposite direction - i.e. open diff. But have also read that a knackered LSD can behave like an open diff.

So am I looking at an open diff in a T series diff ??, or perhaps an LSD that is knackered ??

Can I assume that the T series diffs come with both open and LSD centres?

Any other way to tell if LSD ?? Diff markings ?? other checks ??

Sry for all the questions spent a bit of time searching for info, but still unsure, and do not want to pull diff if ok.

    Thks for any assistance.

    Chrs Pat

The LSD is inside the diff carrier, so there is no external way to see it. You have to take it apart to know exactly what centre you have.

Take the centre out and take a picture, and we will say what it is.
