100% sure they are not the same. I stripped both boxes side by side.

Input shaft and bearing are slightly different. Some other minor internal differences (different bore and shaft sizes for some gears).

4A bellhousing doesn't bolt up properly because of input shaft differences.

Are AE71s and sprinters the only cars with compatible T50s?

seen a T18 T50 behind a blacktop 20v in a ke70, output shaft was different to the AE86/71 box (20 splines instead of 22? me thinks) but the t18 tailshaft and diff as well so it worked. don't know about internals, just know a 4a bellhousing was fitted and it all worked

    biggo owns the car now

p.s i know as i helped remove said drivetrain from one t18 and fitment to aforementioned KE70!!

yep what gilly said. Altho said box has gone kaput now.

if you go t18 box you need a 4a bellhousing and t18 tailshaft.

71 and 86 boxes are the same

t50s are in t18s aswell. differances have been covered.

ta22s also have t50s, but they have a differant extension housing, the shifter postion is closer to the engine. in all other was it would be fair to assume they are the same as the t18 type t50, and as such, the most useless variant.

just a heads up, t18 tailshafts fit the ta22 gbox, 4a clutch also fits the input.

Im thinking of mixing and matching my t18 and ta22 box to make one useable as the ta one was rebuilt but has a cracked case
