    Thumbs up

Hey, anyone know any place to buy a set of new or used carby setup for 4age preferably in Melbourne but anywhere in Australia is fine also???

e.g. Mikuni, Webber, Solex etc. specialist

if i just go to a carby specialist, would that be the best thing to do?

Talk to a specialist or work out what you want (size, brand etc).

Then look at buying a new set (expensive) or look at where you can get them from. Old Alfa's, 18RGs, 2TGs spring to mind, or even better, hang out with the rally crowd and see who's selling what off their L16/18/20.

Make sure you know someone who can rebuild them before you buy second hand though. I know Rallystanza recommends a carby place in Preston who know their stuff.

    Or just go quad throttles.

I bought my Twin Dellorto DHLA40 carbs off a guy on e-bay, Going to get them fitted up to my KE70 by Recarb on the Sunshine Coast monday. They can do a rough tune for me but it won't be 100% perfect. Have to get it on a dyno to be sure you are running all the right jets and stuff in the carbs..
Why hesitate when you can accelerate???

You need to understand that if you buy a used set you need to factor in the cost of having them overhauled. You need to check they have no wear in the spindles and usually old ones have warped butterfly rods. I think parts are hard to come by for mikuni's now. Putting a gasket kit in them does not constitute an overhaul. Then you will need to have them rechoked and rejetted to suit preferably on the dyno, all of which is surprisingly expensive.

But they sound good! By the time you have done all that, ITB's are not really any more expensive as an option.

Yeah but it is fun balancing them with a bit of hose.

Of course I forgot to mention the cost of a manifold and the surprising cost and pain in the arse process of working out a decent accelerator linkage.

But did I mention they sound good

hmmm, thanks for all the replies guys...yes i'm at a crossroads sort of...my brain says quad throttles but my heart says carbies...they both sound mad of course either one comes down to preference in that respect but the reason i'm eager on the carbs atm is because i'm highly considering buying that engine off banzai-parts-garage (dunno if you've seen it, its really worked up apparently and used to run on carbs)...one of my main concerns is that i was gonna do a 20v conversion but since i saw that engine i fell in love with it but dunno how hard it'll be to run quad throttles on that thing coz its a 16v

As I recall it had some decent duration cams so ITB's with a T3 adaptor, aftermarket computer and bigger injectors would probably go pretty good........and sound good. And not cost much more expensive than a GOOD carb setup. Also carbs need a modified dizzy. The more I think about it, the worse carbs sound.

haha thats mad only it would help if i knew anything about them ( i know i'm digging my own grave if i go carbs the way it sounds) but all i remember about carbs is from my dirtbikes when i was younger...if i had any problems with the way the bike ran, i would just turn this little screw either way until it sounded better...
