I got this problem too. For me, the cause is the headlight switch. In the switch there is a pin for the dash lights, as you turn the switch, the pin runs over a copper strip that powers the dash lights. But my switch is old and starting to lift a bit, so I shoved something in behind the connection to keep it pressed up tight.
BTW, giving the switch a good wack will usually bring the connection back.

if it is the headlight switch send me your address and 1 will appear in the post for free

Yeah mine wasn't working either so i pulled it apart and cleaned all the copper connections. heaps of black shite builds up on the copper clean that off and check all the soldered joints. I actually just melted the solder and let it cool and it fixed it all up. I also did this on my demistor switch which didn't work all that well and it fixed it.
Or you could buy the one thats on ebay australia for $70

worded for me lol
i swapped 3 dashs, changed all the fuses + lights and still didnt work!

thanks guys..
tried the soldering job seems t work good now
only thing was when i clipped the circuit board off the back theres a spring in there that clicks into what ever setting ur on (parks/heads) well it sprung out an watever is on the end of the spring is now lost..so its not stayin in the setting real good..so still myt need a switch
lol yea that happened to me /\, for me, it seemed to be the wire goin into the actual plug that is faulty, how do u get the wire out of the plug?
i rewired my light and wiper switches in to my centre console. does the job. now have 2 more spots for my guages.
