    This happened to a mate of mine, he had some works rims on his 86, the rear wheel bearing failed during a long trip & he had to soilder on. When he got to his destination the entire hub was glowing red, swapped the rear hub but a few days later he was driving down the road when the rim failed & he messed up the front/back of his levin. The rapid heat/cooling must have induced a crack in one of the spokes.
